On the third day of the cruise, we went from Barca d’Alva by bus to Salamanca, Spain, leaving early in the morning (7:00 am) for the 2+ hour trip.
Along the way we took a break at a restaurant/bar/gift shop in Villaseco de los Gamitos.
Salamanca is an ancient university town north-west of Madrid, first conquered by the Carthaginians in the 3rd century B.C. It then became a Roman settlement before being ruled by the Moors until the 11th century. Its university, is more than 800 years old, one of the oldest in Europe. The city's historic centre has important Romanesque, Gothic, Moorish, Renaissance and Baroque structures.
