Sáo Bento Train Station

The Sáo Bento (Saint Benedict) station was constructed over a number of years, starting in 1904. It features large panels of azulejo tile that were completed in 1916. The tiles are murals representing moments in the country's history and the multicolored panels near the ceiling depict rural scenes showing the people of various regions.

The site of the station is that of the former Benedictine convent that was demolished in 1892.
