Arcachon

Arcachon is an Atlantic seaside resort town 34 miles southwest of Bordeaux. Other than a resort, it is adjacent to the Bay of Arcachon, one of the most important oyster-farming areas in France. We were on an Alliance-Schlumberger tour in the fall of 2019 and had the opportunuity to explore the bay in “Pinasses”, small flat-bottomed boats, traditionally used for fishing and oyster farming.

After the boat tour and a great seaside lunch, we spent some time at the nearby Dune of Pilat. At almost 350 ft high, it is the tallest sand dune in Europe.
