Guadalupr River State Park is northwest of San Antonio and west of New Braunfels near the small town of Bergheim. The park comprises almost 1900 acres in two sections. The main unit (1227 acres) is south of the river and the Bauer unit (661 acres) is across the river to the north. The Bauer unit has no camping or picnic facilities, but a number of trails. Access to it is either by wading across the water or driving around via Bergheim about 15 miles.
The park has four miles of river frontage for canoeing, fishing, swimming and tubing. Other activities include birdwatching, hiking and mountain biking.
The land for the park was acquired beginning in 1974 opened as a park in 1983.
These photos were taken in November 2020 on a two-day trip to the park. The river is lined with bald cypress trees, some of which are huge, providing most the fall colors you see in the photos.
There are some photos of the Philipp Bauer house, who, with his wife Marie were the original German settlers in the area in the 1850s.
