Bamberg is city rich with medieval history, located on the Regnitz River (part of the Rhine-Main-Danube Canal) near its confluence with the Main River. Bamberg is famous for smoked beer (Rauchbier), a type of beer with a distinctive smoke flavor from malted barley dried over an open flame. Bamberg is also somewhat famous (or infamous) for its annual Sandkerwa, a week-long drunken festival.
