Description Habitat: Sandy, gravelly soils in fields, grassy area, roadsides and other open areas.
Plant: Erect, smooth annual 6 to 12 inches tall, single stem branched in upper portions.
Leaves: Narrow linear leaves 1/2 to 1 inch long, stalkless, upright, and rigid; stem leaves alternate, basal leaves opposite.
Inflorescence: Clustered, cup-shaped flowers, 3/4 to 1-1/8 inch across on short pedicels; 5 yellow petals with copper-colored centers and radiating reddish lines.
Bloom Period: April and May.

Description Habitat: Dry, sandy, gravelly, or calcareous soils in open areas; prairies, grassy areas and roadsides.
Plant: Erect, smooth annual 6 to 16 inches tall, delicate stems branched from base.
Leaves: Numerous small, alternate, linear to linear-lanceolate leaves 3/8 to 3/4-inch long, along stem.
Inflorescence: Terminal panicles of small flowers, 1/2 to 3/4-inch across; 5 light blue to (rarely) white petals with blue veins.
Bloom Period: March to July.
