Description |
Habitat: Gravelly, rocky limestone soils; prairies, hillside, roadsides. Plant: Erect, bushy annual about 12 inches tall with single, much-branched stem; branches in upper portions grouped together. Leaves: Smooth stem leaves opposite, sessile, narrowly linear-oblanceolate, up to 1-1/4 inches long, 1/8 inch wide; uppermost nearly thread-like. Inflorescence: Numerous bright pink to rose-colored flowers in terminal clusters or at branch forks; calyx tube opening into star shape with 5 pointed lobes, white at base, about 3/4 inch across; protruding stamens with coiled yellow anthers.
