| Description |
Habitat: Sandy, gravelly, and rocky sites, calcareous or igneous soils; in desert arroyos and on limestone banks, far West Texas. Plant: Shrubby perennial with many erect, broom-like stems, turning gray/brown with age; 2 feet or more tall. Leaves: Few thick filiform (thread-like) leaves along stems, up to 1-1/2 inches long. Inflorescence: Rayless blossoms atop long stems; many (40 to 80) yellow disk florets surrounded by 7 to 10 phyllaries, 1/4 to 3/8 inches long. Bloom Period: Year-around depending on conditions.
