| Description | Habitat: Desert environments; flat areas with gravelly or sandy soils; below 5,000 ft. Plant: Annual with decumbent to ascending stems 4 to 40 inches long in spreading clumps 2 to 5 feet across in favorable environments; stems densely covered with hairs. Leaves: Pinnately-compound, 5/8 to 2-3/4 inches long with 4 to 8 pairs of elliptic leaflets, 1/3 to 1 inch long, on each side of the midrib, somewhat hairy. Inflorescence: Deep dark orange flowers fading to yellow during the day, up to 2-1/2 inches across, with 5 petals, 5 sepals and 10 stamens with yellow anthers; on peduncles 1 to 4 inches long.
