Description |
Habitat: Disturbed sites, roadsides, abandoned land. Plant: Perennial bunchgrass with erect stems 10 to 40 inches tall; forming thick mats or clumps. Leaves: Leaf blades sheathed at base, linear, up to 3/8-inch wide, mostly flat and smooth to somewhat hairy; hairy ligule. Inflorescence: Solitary spike on each stem, each 1 to 7-3/4 inches long with many spikelets; spikelets surrounded by spreading bristles, these 3/8 to 5/8-inch long, reddish-brown to purple.
