| Description |
Habitat: Stream banks, dry washes, sandy flood plains, disturbed sites. Plant: Dioecious shrub, 3-1/2 to 12 feet tall; single stems unbranched or branched near tops; green new stems turning grayish or brownish; often thicket-forming. Leaves: alternate, linear or elliptic, mostly sessile, margins entire or serrate, 1-1/4 to 4 inches long; shiny, green, covered with resinous, sticky substance. Inflorescence: Panicles of large numbers of white flowers on multiple branches; pistillate (female) heads with 50+ flowers producing white pappus hairs; staminate (male) heads with 10 to 20 flowers.
