Description | Habitat: Rocky calcareous, sandy clay, and gypsum soils in woodlands and desert scrub. Plant: Low, upright perennial, 3 to 12 inches tall. Leaves: Flat or upright basal leaves are large, oblong-oblanceolate overall, with deep, rounded lobes with spiny edges; petioles less than 1 inch to 3.5 inches long. Inflorescence: Small flowers, single or in groups of 3, on stalks up to 8 inches long, each up to 1 inch across, with 25 to 53 pinkish, curled petals. Bloom Period: April to June.
