We underestimeated the amount of time we would have to wander about Bilbao, so our photo collection doesn’t include some important sites. Maybe next time…
The Alliance Schlumberger reunion was held at the Hotel Carlton in the center of the city, a grand old-style hotel.
Scrolling down you will see a statue of John Adams, the second US president and author of most of our Constitution. He visited Bilbao on his way to Paris in 1779, passing through much of northern Spain, including the Basque Country.
He states:
"While their neighbors have long since resigned all their pretensions into the hands of kings and priests this extraordinary people have preserved their ancient language, genius, laws, government, and manners, without innovation, longer than any other nation of Europe.”
