On Saturday, December 16, we were at Greenwich Island.
After leaving Vega Island, we sailed north back through the Antarctic Sound to Fort Point on Greenwich Island. It is an island in the South Falklands Islands. This was our last day in Antarctica before heading back across the Drake Passage to Ushuaia.
Fort Point is on the southeast coast of the island. It is a conspicuous rocky point rising almost 300 ft. and linked to the island by a low, narrow isthmus almost 1/2-mile long. Our Zodiac landed on the isthmus.
Fort Point is home to colonies of assorted penguins, Gentoos, Chinstraps and some Adélies. We also saw our first and only Elephant seals here.
The landing was in the morning of an overcast snowy day. Later we were on a Special Operations Boat cruise around the area.
