Mont Sainte-Odile

Mont Sainte-Odile is a 2500-ft. tall peak in the Vosges Mountains southwest of Strasbourg with a convent at its top. Until the 7th century it was the site of Hohenburg Castle, the residence of the Duke of Alsace who later gave it to his daughter Odile. She made it into a convent that lasted 11 centuries until the French Revolution in 1789 when it was confiscated by the government. It was later purchased by the Bishop of Strasbourg and restored. Today it houses a hotel.
